downtown Pittsburgh

We got on on of the loops, or something around part of the city, and saw I believe the football Stadium, and the baseball field. It was pretty cool, even if very temporary.

a donkey

We stopped by a pottery place in the morning, and they had some donkeys in the yard that was fenced off. I guess it was pretty cool. We didn't stay very long.

breakfast

Marietta Ohio, we stayed that night at a Super 8 hotel. It was okay. We ate breakfast at Bob Evans. I wasn't impressed by the biscuit bowls. I thought I would have been, but it was just a new way of doing things. I think I need to just stay away from heavily breadded things. I can have some biscuits and gravy, from cracker barrel, if I specify that I would like an extra gravy. I had some from Cracker Barrel, but I didn't eat all of it there either. I guess that's good. That was the point behind getting the surgery to begin with. Eating less has made things a bit simpler, but has made eating out a little bit uncertain.

Another Horse

We walked around campus looking for the niece for quite awhile, before we found her. It was pretty cool. I guess there were many horses at the school.

A horse

We visited with my niece through marriage, and she seems genuinely happy with her decision to persue vocational training at Meredith Manor. She likes working with the horses, cleaning stalls, and whatnot else. Supposedly, receiving training at Meredith Manor opens many doors.

A nifty Vietnam Veterans' Memorial with breakdowns of counties where people were from. This was at a visitor's center as we entered West Virginia.

East River Mountain

The tunnels through mountains were also impressive.

blasted walls

The blasted walls were impressive. It is impressive how some men have cut through mountains to make transportation easier.

Dry Falls

Highlands North Carolina is known for having some nice waterfalls. This was after a pretty significant rain event went through. The same rain system that caused flooding in Nashville, caused a flash flood warning for this area. The amount of water flowing down the mountain was exceptional according to my mom. It was pretty neat.
This particular area is called dry falls. We walked behind the falls. We had the dog with us. The amount of water was unusual, due to the recently heavy rain.

3 churches

Yesterday, we went to 3 different churches
May 03, 2010 08:17 AM EDT
I guess I was somewhat among the more casually dressed--in my pants and a Florida Blood Services Volunteer Donor T-shirt. Oh well. What would Jesus Wear? Right? The first church we went to was with Mom, the Catholic Church had a typical Catholic service. It was a bit routine.
At 3 pm, we went to the United Methodist Church, and there was a guy with a guitar, who provided some entertainment and some stories. I liked how he related that "Amazing Grace" can be set to many different musical backgrounds. He did the music to "House of the Rising Sun" and sang amazing grace. He did "Mickey Mouse" and sang "A-M-A..Z-I-N-G...G-R-A-C-E"--I thought that was cool. The theme song to "Gilligan's Island," even related how on New Years Eve, "Auld Lang Syne" (which nobody seems to know the exact words to) can be done with "Amazing Grace."
Then later that evening, we saw the Atlanta Boy's Chior at the Episcopal Church. It was quite nice. Though the only audience participation at that one was the "Glory, glory, Hallelujah" at the end of the Battle Hymn of the Republic. Most of the music pieces were quite fancy. I guess the Atlanta Boys Chior will be going to the Vatican to perform before an audience of Pope Benedict, and probably some Cardinals.

low ceiling

I guess this could illustrate the effect of low clouds covering the mountains. I don't think that the particular area was the mountain where my parents live, but the concept should be similar.

the bascom center for the arts

I'm not sure what sort of reputation the bascom has, but I guess it's a pretty good one.
I don't know if the last photo of this small series is directly related to the Bascom, but I'd probably guess that yes, it most likely is.

Doc Montgommery

Supposedly, Doc Montgommery bought 365 acres of land, and paved some roads to develop the area a bit more. Of course, the area is still pretty country. The mountains are mountainous. This little park area was near a water lake type area for fire trucks to access, I guess.

Ballerina

A ballerina . We also got this picture while down in Cashiers. This morning, it was awefully foggy up in Highlands. What it was I think was the clouds were low, relative to the 4100 foot elevation that Highlands sits at, and the town of Cashiers at 3500 feet was not in the clouds.

Cashiers, public art

In the town of Cashiers, there's a small little city park. We stopped at Ingles grocery store, and picked up some chicken pieces. The city park was bigger than we first understood, but it was still pretty cool. I got a few pictures. I enjoyed the big public art, I took some pictures because it was so unusual. It was kind of a rocky exterior, but a smooth aluminum interior.
I enjoyed the simple meal of a hamburger tonight. Last night, we had the birthday dinner at Old Edward's Inn, and I got meatloaf, with vegetables, and mashed potatoes. A relatively simple meal, I guess. I had gotten meatloaf from a food court place in Atlanta where we were at yesterday. Old Edward's Inn meatloaf was better than the food court place. I think the Grill Smith Meatloaf was better than the Old Edward's Inn meatloaf, but maybe not as good as the meatloaf from the Big River restaurant in the Epcot Resort area.
The Resort area is not easy to get stuff home, because we live in Tampa.
I might have internalized too much about the starving children in China. I don't like wasting food. And with our small meal sizes, we could get in trouble if we were to eat too much, or too fast.
I'm happy that we get full, but I don't want to waste food, so I ask for to go boxes, and usually can stretch meals out to last for several days. Once we are at the resort areas of Epcot and we have the to go boxes, walking around the park is pretty much not going to happen.
At the Restaurant, last night, there were some high school kids taking dates from Prom to this place. I think that was a bit over the top. I don't think that was probably a cheap meal. I don't think the kids should have ordered the Chef's specialty fish of the evening. Perhaps the kids were trying to impress their dates. For all I know, some of the kids might have had some parents who had significant amounts of money.
I freely admit that I tend to think in terms of maximizing frugality. We do pretty good with making servings of food ahead of schedule. Except when travelling.
The previous night, we ate at the country buffet place, and I only had a salisbury steak patty, and some mashed potatoes. I was full, so the lap band surgery is still working I guess.
Usually though, we do much better by fixing a lot of food, and divvying it up into several small containers worth.

I guess I went looking for a 3g ipad today.

I guess I went looking for a 3g ipad today. As we were travelling today, it wasn't the easiest thing. Still, I had my ipod touch wifi (b speed) with me, and we stopped at a few mcdonald's and did some wifi connecting with my ipod touch. Last night, we were at a hotel, we saw an apple store near where we wanted to go. Today, Saturday, we tried finding a 3g ipad, and we could not find one.

Technology will evolve. Gadgets will improve in usability. I like the idea of the 3g ipad. My mom likes her wifi ipad. The ipad is a pretty good device.
